The Movie portrays the life of 6-18 years of a boy, Mason. Mason's parents are divorced. Mason lives with his mother, and his father visits him on the weekends. Mason's mother had two more other marriages by the time mason turned 18. The plot explores the evolution of Mason's 12-year-old connection with his parents and his relationship with his stepfathers.
Since The Movie was shot over 12 years, you can see the characters growing old and the actors evolving as the movie proceeds.
